Logicom Cyprus Marathon

The European Capital of Culture is ready to give you a warm welcome for the Logicom Cyprus Marathon on March 5, 2017! The 19th Cyprus Marathon, is the most historic and oldest marathon which will combine the breath-taking views of Pafos with the awe-inspiring historic scenery of Pafos. The international stream of runners of all ages and abilities that will be participating in the 5KM Fun Run, 10KM Road Race, and Half-Marathon will have as a start and a finish point the scenic Pafos Medieval Castle and the Marathon will start from Petra Tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Birthplace).

LIKOK Traditional Carnival Dance

LIKOK is organizing its Traditional Carnival Dance, in cooperation with the Cyprus Historic and Classic Motor Museum on Sunday 26th of February 2017.  The dance will take place at the Curium Palace hotel and starts at 8:30pm.  The entrance fee is 35euros for adults and 18euros for children. This includes a lavish buffet dinner with unlimited Cypriot drinks and a raffle with great prizes.

The live entertainment for the evening will be by the famous Aristos Moschovakis and his band. A promissing eventful and joyous night full of music and dance. The dress code is preferably carnival.

Agios Spyridon Charity Gala Dinner

Becoming an eagerly anticipated annual event, this year's Charity Gala Dinner will take place on Friday 24 February 8pm at Diner Onair Restaurant, Larnaka International Airport.

The evening will include Live music from Evridiki and her Band and the Soprano Kaitie Economidou.

Open Conference about the Programme UNESCO MAB: Man and Biosphere, for designated areas

An Informative Conference about the programme UNESCO MAB: Man and Biosphere for protected areas and communities within them, is being organised under the programme Akamas Project of ECoC PAFOS2017.

The event is open to the public and aims to inform the local communities and other stakeholders of the Akamas peninsula, about the programme Man and Biosphere and the Network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.

Cyprus Sunshine Cup

The Cyprus Sunshine Cup is one of the most famous Mountainbike Series in the UCI Calendar. It takes place every year in the early season. Cyprus Sunshine Cup races have been organized for more than 20 years, with the first race taking place in 1997. This year the Cup includes races in Lefkara, Lythrodontas,  Macheras Mountain - Mantra tou Kambiou and Amathous.

Second Nature

The project Second Nature aims at the renegotiation of the relationship of the Public Garden with the urban landscape of Pafos, through the study and design of structures. The structures will combine the natural landscape with aesthetic standards and will be delivered as installations that will remain in the town. Participating teams of architects and artists from Cyprus, Denmark and China are: The Green Cube (Evdokia Papoui/Christakis Paraskevas), The Second Life-Fallen Leave (XianLiang, Liang/Wym Poon), Garden Bubbles (Robert B. Trempe), PolyCatOikia (Emilios Koutsoftides/Gabor Stark, Bloom (Charis Solomou/Odysseas Georgiou/Kyriakos Kyriakides/Michalis Georgiou), The Green Shower (Eleonora Antoniadou/Eleni Flouri/Andreas Tsiaklis/Pantelis Papadopoulos).

“Maniera Cypria”

The exhibition “Maniera Cypria” attempts to highlight the painting production of icongraphy in Cyprus during the 13th century and the influences from the East and the West. Through the icons on display in the exhibition, the parameters influencing painting production are analysed: the multicultural environment created in Cyprus during the first century of the Frankish conquest, the establishment of the Latin Church on the island, the presence of Western artists, but also refugees from Syria and Palestine. The exhibition presents icons from the collection of the Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation, as well as icons given on loan from the local Bischoprics of Cyprus.

Tours and Traces - Episkopi village

The Community Involvement programme of the Pafos2017 Organisation visits Episkopi village through a different kind of tour. The route follows the traces of history and memory, chooses hidden places as landmarks and explores those that cannot be seen at first glance; those that we do not see during our ordinary excursions in the countryside.

Our first stop will be the Environmental Information Centre of the village, where we will watch a 24 minute film about the village as well as the ecological and cultural characteristics of the area. Next, we will be given a tour of the famous Episkopi Rock, the so-called “Meteora of Cyprus”. Our next stop is at the Ezousa valley, where there will be a reception by the Community Council of Episkopi village. A music project by pianists Ricardo Vieira from Portugal and Tomohiro Hatta from Japan. The artists, after their first successful collaboration in 2010, continue to study and present works for four hands from classical to modern music tradition, as well as interpret works from their own countries, literally bridging their countries’ cultures in the spirit of the emblematic logo of the European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017 “Linking Continents – Bridging Cultures”.

Travelling Bricks by LEGO® bricks

The interactive and educational exhibition “Travelling Bricks” by LEGO® bricks, on “History of travel”, is coming to Cyprus for the first time! The exhibition will present the entire history of the travel means, through the centuries. Part of the exhibits will be breathtaking both for detail and with their dimensions. One example is the "Titanic", whose length exceeds 7 meters.

For the exhibition 20 professional LEGO® artists will arrive and will use more than 500,000 LEGO® bricks, to build a total of 120 exhibits presenting the entire history of travel transportation through the centuries.

The exhibition will open on 3 February, 2017 at ANNEX 3, at The Mall of Cyprus. The exhibition is under the auspices of the Education and Culture Ministry.
